Kingham Hill School, part of the Dean Close Foundation, is seeking a committed and passionate Christian Chaplain to play a central role in shaping and inspiring the spiritual life of our vibrant boarding and day school community. We are looking for the successful candidate to start in September 2026 or January 2027.

This is a rare opportunity to join an evangelical Anglican school with a rich gospel heritage and a clear vision for pastoral care, formation, and discipleship. The Chaplain will:

  • Lead, nurture, and model the Christian faith within an evangelical Anglican framework.
  • Oversee the spiritual, pastoral, and worshipping life of the school, including preaching, chapel services, Holy Communion, confirmation preparation, and mission-focused events such as Events Week.
  • Provide pastoral support to pupils and staff, including during critical incidents.
  • Build strong links with local churches, Christian camps, and parachurch organisations.
  • Collaborate across the Dean Close Foundation chaplaincy team.
  • Teach and contribute to the wider co-curricular life of the school (with a tailored timetable).

The successful candidate will be a committed evangelical Christian, able to model and articulate the Christian faith with clarity and graciousness. They will be theologically trained and have proven experience of pastoral ministry within a parish, school, or chaplaincy setting.

The Dean Close Foundation is a values-driven organisation that fosters love, courage, and contribution. You will be part of a supportive team that encourages creativity, compassion, and collaboration.

Dean Close Foundation is a growing, vibrant and diverse family of independent schools and nurseries, uniting around a shared vision and set of values. These spring from the origins of Dean Close School, which was founded in 1886 in memory of Dean Francis Close, Rector of Cheltenham and educational philanthropist. The Christian ethos of that original school continues today where the aim is that every child should be given the opportunities to flourish, underpinned by its core values of courage, contribution and love which are the guiding principles behind its educational vision. The Foundation currently has five schools and six nurseries within its group, creating a strong community that can share best practice, resources and a secure future.

Dean Close Foundation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
