The vacancy
Dean Close Foundation is looking to appoint an outstanding Head of Geography to join our successful and well-established department from September 2026.
Geography is a thriving subject taught from Years 9–13, with consistently strong uptake at both GCSE and A Level, with impressive examination results. The department comprises four experienced teachers and the Head of Department, and is entering an exciting new phase with the move to a purpose-built Humanities Centre at the heart of the School.
The successful candidate will contribute to the strategic development of the department and uphold high standards of teaching and learning. For applicants seeking the Head of Department role, responsibilities will include leading and managing the department, overseeing curriculum development, staff support and performance management, pupil progress tracking, budget oversight, and the organisation of field trips. The role also involves fostering a culture of independent learning and academic excellence.
The postholder will work collaboratively with colleagues across the School, maintain strong communication with parents and pastoral teams, support pupil transition and contribute to whole-school initiatives, events, and professional development.
